Although every time I go down to our boat I fall back in love with it I can't stop thinking about getting a different boat.

Trouble is I can't make my mind up. Often I dream of Fleming 55's but would need to break the bank. Then recently it was WhiteMouse which is beautiful and cheaper but there's the ongoing maintenance & slow. Or maybe a Trader 535 ? Or what about a Sunseeker Manhatten 62 for £299k ? What a lot of boat ! A while ago there was a 2006 Oyster 43 for £325k. What a beautiful boat and a bargain ? How about a Dutch river type boat ? What about a Nelson 42 ?

And I can't even stick with a price range. One minute Mr Heart says, "Sod it you only live once. Get the Fleming." Then Mr Head says, "Don't be an idiot, stick with what you've got and stop throwing money away".

Am I fickle ? Indecisive ? Dumb ? Ungrateful ?

Just wondered if you flip flop ?

Flop flipping al the time!

However, we can afford to moor the current boat, keep it all serviced and anti-fouled and put 200hrs worth of diesel it it every year - so it does us!

Unless of course, Camelot come up trumps!

Sod it - go for the Flemming!

The Flemming is my absolute dream boat. There's one moored in Cowes which never seems to move or even have visitors, so I've contemplated stealing it! However, I was absolutely delighted to see it in Dartmouth a couple of weeks ago...I fell in love all over again.

So break the bank, remortgage or sell the company - you only live once, so die on a high note (unless you can't afford to take her out anywhere...the boat, not the lady!)

Enjoy the hunt - Stacey

P.S. If you do go for a Flemming, can I have a tour?*

I agree! I love em! We have a delivery of a 55 across to Florida in November. Extra fuel capacity being added, but it will make it. Gibraltar, Grand Canaria, Antigua and then the US of A!

The first Fleming in Europe was a 50 and came from California thru the Panama Canal and was berthed in the Med somewhere, this was in the late '80's.
I had a copy of the write up at one time and it helped convince me to buy my Fleming as at the time as there were none in the UK.
It is an interesting read and is probably still around somewhere and Fleming probably still have a copy.
At the time I visited the dealer in Newport Beach http://www.chuckhoveyyachts.com/ and he was incredibly helpful and gave me a sea trial even though I was going to place the order with Alan Taylor in the UK.

I've seen the write up on the Fleming that came to the Med from Panama.

There are a lot of Fleming 55's for sale at the moment. Think it was 17 in total I counted. 4 in Europe the rest in USA. Normally there are only a handful for sale worldwide. Must be the credit crunch ?

Looking is part of the fun! No harm in that. Enjoy.

Not what my wife thinks...... and then I started looking at boats

How does the delivery (passage making) work out for the owner cost wise, say compared to a Dockwise ship delivery?

Or does the owner want to go along for the experience?

On the musicians' boards we call this a GAS attack: guitar acquisition syndrome. It's when you have a sudden irrepresible urge to go out and buy a guitar, no matter how many other guitars you have.

We try to support each other as best we can, even if it means physical restraining someone.

Normal behaviour I'd say .... and once evaluated, looked at, tested etc.... you still will look at other stuff.....

Now if I had the EUR 100K right now, I'd go for something like this if survey was good...

hey Alf,
I am considering to go exactly the same route like you want,
even a little bigger
I am just concerned about the mooring, maintenance and fuel cost on such a boat,
I think these costs are endless ?
and alsway's hassle with repairing bits and pieces, or at least very time consuming, don't you think ?

by the way, what boat is this? Guy Couch ?

This one is a VersilCraft Supervanguard... and looks in good nick for EUR 110K... and is apparently coded...

Fuel cost is as one would expect with 1100 Hp ...but you do not need to use them allat once...... I'd do the engines myself (Detroits)... the rest, if good should be about par for size / age / material...

Mooring ... well, for 18 -20 M is what one could expect ....it is about Location, Location, Location...
