Hi I have to refurbish the fore hatch on my boat. It is a canpa hatch which is now discontinued . I was trying to figure out how to remove the top to allow me to bring it home and work on it .Is there a special tool to get the hinges apart or do I just drill out what appear to be plastic bungs and find a screw of some kind behind them. I would appreciate any advice on this and thank you for reading.

I suspect you're in for a new hatch !

Eagle Windows always get glowing reports on these forums, though I haven't dealt with them myself.

Seateach at Emsworth ( definitely no connection to me ) do have a choice of new hatches, BUT be very careful to check their measurments against yours...

What do you need to do to it? I went through the same thought process when re-newing the seal between the acrylic and the frame, but in the end just did it in situ - didn't take long, and wasn't onerous (got a kit and instructions from Eagle).

The 'plastic' hinge pins will pull out if you insert a knife edge underneath the head of each.https://picasaweb.google.com/bluerm166/Fulmar?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCPeg8dSdpsbp2AE&feat=directlink
I found that the hatch distorts with age and no longer lies in the precise plane of the frame so leaving a small gap when the hatch is closed and touching the frame.Sorted by removing the seal and rebedding it on a bead of sikaflex.Close the hatch onto a coin or thick washer at the leading edge until the sikaflex has gone off. Then remove coin. The seal will now follow the exact line of the frame and will compress all the way round the seat. Now snug.
As has been said you can work on the seal without removing the hinges.I also had a leak twixt glass and frame.Resolved by cutting out the old perimeter sealant with a scalpel (used for graphics) cleaning out groove thoroughly and repointing with black sikaflex. Not as good as rebedding but works and fairly easy to do,with the right glasses !
The sealant can be trimmed after it's gone off.

Evening all ,It never ceases to amaze me how helpful this site is. Thank you for the information and the advice. I am going to remove the top of the hatch to enable me to bring it home and work on it at a reasonable temperature. There is a crack in the frame and I plan to use some glassfibre tape all round the underside to reinforce it and then paint the top with hammerite to give it a new lease of life. As always the optimist. I hope it works. Thanks again

Have a look at the Force 4 Chandlery website. The "Storm" hatch they offer is made by Bainbridge Marine, but not at the astronomical Bainbridge price. I bought one to replace the Canpa hatch on my Nic 30. If your hatch has a 500mm (or thereabouts) clear opening, the Storm hatch should be an almost direct replacement.
