Ok all you experts ... whats the best stuff for cleaning the canopy to get the general grime off. It's made from the acrylic canvas stuff and i'm told that using detergent will remove the waterproofing.

Note to hlb - guess that MFPBR would probably dissolve the lot!

Most of the canopy cleaning agents I've tried are based on a weak solution of chlorine and all of them will ruin waterproofing no matter what they say. They work by bleaching out the stains caused by dirt and mildew. (That's why they all say "test on an small unseen area before apply to the main cover!) One of the best in my experience is Starbright canopy cleaner, but equally a bucket full of water with half a cup of bleach in it works just as well. I did my covers about six weeks ago and fully waterproofed them afterwards and they came up as good as new. Use a waterproofing agent from a camping shop, Fabseal is great and easy to apply and a lot cheaper than its marine equivilent.

You can buy proprietory cleaners from canopy makers or use soap flakes. Soap will clean fabric without destroying its waterproof qualities.
