I am considering chartering for 2 up sailing in the canaries this autumn on 34 to 40ft boat and wondered if any forum readers have experience (good or bad) of particular charter companies or recommendations where to / not to go etc. Both of us are experienced sailors and a well set up boat would be fairly important. We have only ever made brief stops in the canaries before so have little idea of it as a cruising ground.

Would also consider madeira though wonder/ doubt if anyone does charters from there.

Any advice very gratefully recieved.

Have used ECC yacht charter (twice in November - December time) based in Santa Cruz (Tenerife) nice helpful people. Find on Google.

As a cruising ground it requires a bit of planning as the distances between suitable marinas can be appreciable. Not many places to anchor deep water all around. Fishing harbours very crowded. Check the pilot carefully.

Best marinas on Gomera and Lanzarote (Puerto Calero) and Mogan on Grand Canaria. La Graciosa is interesting to the North of Lanzarote.

Plenty of wind, acceleration zones and ocean swells.
