Visit Carcassonne.

Take a tour of the old walled city.

Lunch at Le Parc Franck Putelat. Not cheap but they have a fixed price lunch that is reasonable.

Read Narrow Dog To Carcassonne by Terry Darlington. Nothing to with Carcassonne but lots about canals and dogs and it is funny.

Thanks for the tips. We will be staying in Carcassonne for 2 days before jumping on the boat, so will will have time to do a tour, and will seek out the restaurant as well. Salut!

Well, that's the first week over..so far,it has been excellent. The boat is an English built narrowboat, very well designed, fitted and maintained. Ideal for 2 but a bit crappy on the corners .plenty of traffic on the canal, but lots of places to moor up. Food great, ( it is France) weather hot & sunny. The first locks were a bit nerve wracking as beginners, but very quickly got the hang . At this moment we are sitting (or as they say "sat" ) in the square in Capestang, having lunch .I have tken plenty pics, so will post them when I can Salut!

Is there still duck on every menu, yet no ducks on the canal? ;)

Enjoy the rest of your trip, we plan to do it again one day :)

Plenty of Ducks, both on the canal and on the menu. We feed them every morning. Weather is still excellent, but the canal is getting quiet boat wise. No queues for the locks and plenty of parking places. There is a dearth of wifi hotspots though, but not a major issue. The wine harvest is on at the moment and the whole area has a lovely smell. We are trying to empty as much of the wine lake as we can but it is a losing battle.

We hardly saw any when we did it, we were a bit surprised.

Ah yes, the wine lake, we did our very best to help out there too :) We drove down and had our car transported to our destination. We made sure that we had plenty of boot space reserved to bring as much surplus stock as possible home with us ;)

Unfortunately we flew here .. Next time I will bring a large van .Or even a lorry.

We handed the boat back this morning. I would highly recommend Minervois Cruisers for a hire . Reasonably priced, very well designed and finished boat, and a bit different from the usual "bumper boats" .
