Can you upgrade D9-500's to D9-575's?

I guess you mean the 575 vs. the 510, not the 500?
If so, the latter has a higher rating (D vs. E) and is slightly better both with regard to emissions and specific consumption.
'Fiuaskme, I'd stick with the 510 unless those 65 additional ponies are really critical.

Otoh, if your question was about the technical differences, sorry but I have no clue.
I suspect it's just a matter of electronic tweaking, possibly with a different camshaft profile, but treat this just as an educated guess. :)

Whooops, you did say D9, but for some reason I was actually thinking to the C9...!
Sorry, but I've not looked at VP engines for some time, can't help you on those.

:D - it's late!

In fact the more I think about it, the more I think it might be a silly idea, better to just buy the 575's in the first place.

I dunno and would expect just software, but could be cam profile too. But you'd need new propellers if you did this conversion. The engine's top rpm is the same whether 500 or 575; the 575 boat goes faster cos the props are coarser.

If when changing the props you got the right new ones first time it would be ok. But if they needed tweaking or were just wrong it starts to get v expensive.

And then on resale the boat wouldn't be as popular as a boat that had 575s from the start.

So all in all, the true cost saving will be much less than it looks, I fear

Hi Jimmy, you cant ugrade without a lot of ££££, as camshaft, turbo, intercooler, ecu, injectors, cp pump etc, the list is endless.

A boat that takes D9s wont go that much better with another 150 hp under its belt.

There have been some engine failures with the 575 engines as well, due to injectors failing, white smoke, knocking etc.

Are you getting the feeling for another boat? I presume a shaft drive sports with the d9s.

Hi Paul

I have heard of a couple of d9 injector failures, is it a widespread prob?

And yes, I'm beginning to think about it, but not absolutely decided yet.

Me too but can't get mind fixed. I would put V48 or Phantom 46 on your list then with D9s' an option. I'm trying to get away from Vp if I can but it's not easy at the lower end is it?

They do provide good performance and economy, therfore value at the D6 and D9 level.

I'm definitely not going back to a flybridge; are you thinking about it?

Well yes I am, the T40 is such a good boat that the V48 doesn't give enough more ( in terms of value) although it is a boat I like alot. The T40 has also been good right through the winter so it's hard to find something that's better...

Truth is I can't, but I might be able to find something different. Houston's available but I'm half hearted in my attempt to sell her as the problem will be what next

I think I prefer flybridge boats more than you but I do like the fun of the Sports boat and flying past the ol' 'Red jet'. Just lately, I been lying in wait just to play with him. ;)

Hi ya, I replied last night and then lost the post! :(

I've not decided at all yet. The T40 is very good and has been good right through a couple of winters so far. The performance, sea keeping and economy can't reallly be equalled so any change will be for the sake of change.

We like the idea of the saloon in a flybridge for the winter and the berthing and general handling of shafts, nothing sure yet but fancy the idea of a 'bridge again if it's big enough and possibly on Cats'...

The only bad bit is that I think I will miss the performance of the Targa 40.

40 knots and 40 feet, can't be bad. :cool
