Can you identify this engine?

Hi, first time poster, longtime reader.

I recently purchased an engine for teaching purposes... but I don’t know what it is ?
i was told Volvo 2000 series by the seller... but it doesn’t match exactly and the service kit parts I ordered for it don’t fit.
so then I thought MD2030, but that’s not quite right either... the raw water pump is in the wrong location forstarters.

it’s painted the Nanni colour... not the Volvo green. But the oil filter on there is a Volvo Penta #3840525 ...

3 cylinder obviously. Help! What engine is this??

Well, whatever is is, it certainly isn't a Volvo 2003 (the 3 cylinder version of the 2000 series)! They are nothing like that - I've spent enough hours fettling mine to be sure of that!

Nanni or Beta, Possibly, the injectors, governor, stop lever and water pump look Kubota.

Heat exchanger is a little different.

100 % agree, the base engine is a Shibaura, I have the Perkins version in my yacht. The marinising parts on yours are different, not perkins or volvo.

I tend to agree, the square plate under the inj pump is normally where the raw water pump is. Where is the alternator going to be? Normally where the raw water pump is. The air inlet seems to be in the normal Perama place although the heat exchangeris different ish!

another friend said the sticker on the cooler is off a yanmar pre-delivery kit.. so I think the heat exchanger was switched around... and maybe the water pump too?
im guessing the fuel and oil filters will be the same as the Volvo 2030 then... but I wonder which impeller to order?

I see now that impeller says Johnson 1026B so sorted that!

I know nothing about this but it does seem to say '753' on the block rather than 723 and a search for 'Shibaura s753' brings up some near-identical engines.

Typo on my part Steve, S753 just doesn't roll off the tongue!

I would guess this engine has come from a different market like Asia

You see all sorts of weird and wonderful variants for places like Thailand

Thats a good spot on the Yanmar Cooler.

As for filters and parts to change, I would seriously go to Perkins Perama M30 parts (parts4engines.com)

I'm not affliated with the site, but it has many specs and sizes so you can confirm you are getting the right part

Used them before, and found them super helpful when I rebuilt my M30

Looks like the smaller one to me the m20 or volvo 2020 base engine

I have come across a few generators without dc alts so might explain that.

God knows on the manicooler but it doesn't look like a half bad solution!
