the oil in the ground came from dying organisms and so comes from the atmosphere originally!!

Yes, but it took millions of years to accumalate. We are releasing it over the period of a few decades and at the same time destroying the mechanism (forests)which controls it. Is that wise?

My sincere apologies to all ....

I posted a simple question to illustrate and bring MORE forward the profiteering of various fuel points supplying marine ... which with the replies gave a clear view of price variations.

My apology is that I got waylaid off the thread into a pointless argument that has no place here... why I rose to the bait I'll never know .... suffice it to say that my view of posting has now taken a change ... the number of genuine posts by various here have too many times been sidelined into ridiculous contests.

I now retire from this thread and watch with fascination those who have chsoen to go with the subject of the thread and pass on their information without "smart" additions ...

Joe - you may consider me a "Silly Boy" ... that's your choice ... what difference it makes to me ?? I don't bloody care to be honest ... I care about my original post and reason I posted ... which you have declared you have no interest in going along with ... please choose another play-ground to hijack and insult ..... (you're probably a nice guy to meet - sad isn't it ....)

Roll on winter and the silly season really starts ...

Oil production ... so it may have ...

But can you imagine the billions of tons that are moving daily on ships etc.

Millions of years to generate and collect .... years to burn it up ...

Plus of course we are not putting it back (the residue that is) in the form that the earth can cope with ... smaller amounts maybe .... but the collosal millions of tons exhausted / pumped into the atmosphere is another matter completely.

I'm not a Green .... far from it - like many I enjoy my luxury and use of cars etc. I like to be warm at home etc. be able to buy and use things from supermarkets etc. - but they all have an environmental impact that has to be controlled sonner than later.

Bio-diesel etc. is only a temp. small answer that can never replace or fill the gap left by hydrocarbon products - here I am only talking diesel ... which only constitutes a small part of the whole range.

The impact of reduction of oil supply hits from road making materials - bitumens etc. - right through to soap and pharmaceuticals. In this I don't only mean energy production to produce the products .... many products nowadays actually have oil derived items in them !!

Anyway .... I haven't seen Bio-diesel hit a marine outlet yet ... has anyone else ?? It won't do your diesel donk any harm most likely ....

Nigel,

At 11 minutes that must be one of the shortest retirements we've seen on this forum! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I know ... I couldn\'t resit the Oil one ...

having spent half my life on ships ... still working with the bloody stuff .... it triggered my want to reply .....
I typed out my resignation ... never said I wouldn't READ the posts / replies ... and bang there's this post on bio / oil generation ...

Let's revise it .... I shall refrain from certain parts of the thread !!!

Re: I know ... I couldn\'t resit the Oil one ...

Why does price go up, the day after crude goes up, in the old days it waited till it got transported to the refinery, got processed, stored, loaded into a tanker and taken to the garage, it was then put in the tank, and the price went up.
On the green point, in the 60's / 70's a small car had an engine under 1000cc ( 850 Mini ) 40 bhp, a large car ( Morris Oxford / Cortina ) 1600 cc 65 bhp top end 2500 / 3000cc 90 bhp, very little plastic, very high recycle level.
To-day the new green driver has a mini with 1600 cc 140 bhp, medium car 2500 cc 200 bhp or a 4 x 4 4500 cc 250 bhp, it har air con full of plastic, electronics and non recycleable material, and a size that makes a Transit van look small. Added to that in the 60's we had no speed limit, to-day we have a 70 mph max speed.

Were is green man ?????????????

Price up ... quick ..... price down ?? Marketing ploy !

Quite agree ....

They say its market led ........... I don't go with that personally ...

Remember some years ago - the Ford Sierra hit the market and many said - Jelly mould .... UGH !! What happened to style and individuality of cars ... now look at them - Sierra clones near everyone of them ............. They all have that curved aerodynamic profile .... often when driving you have to look closely to see what make the car is ... determined by different light shape and a badge ...

But essentially the car has gone the way of more fancy look expensive plastic ... even the bumpers are now fashion statements ...

My Volvo V70 XC is nicknamed the "Crab" in the states ... and I can understand why ... but look at the plastic - its a really good car that despite some reports actually goes where you want ... carving it's way through all sorts !! but the amount of plastic is enormous .....

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm but doesn't smell of diesel ????

Er, can't remember how much it cost per litre here in Bodrum, Turkey, but my partner went spare when she got her credit card bill through. Over £250 to fill up tanks which are around 150-175 litres.
