Buy an ICOM DSC enabled radio and get it to talk to my Garmin 76 handheld GPS which is already busy talking to my laptop - which it does through the cable I bought and plugged in - or do I need a separate GPS?
Well - thank you very much for that informative and illuminating response - now p*ss off and let someone with half a technical brain answer - I may as well have spoken to the cat as asked you anything tecknuckle
I'm pretty sure the answer is yes. In fact I actually rang Garmin the other day and asked the same question but related to my Standard DSC VHF and the Garmin 128.
Apparently up to 3 devices can be addressed, its just a matter of arranging the wiring to suit.
Young jimi doesn't know what he is talking about (aboot?), nothing changed there then. What you need my aging Scottish person is a splitting cable. I've got a similar arrangement on the mighty Rival Spirit not a handheld but a Garmin 128 and I'm assuming that you can get the same kind of wossit for a handheld.
You ain'y met Claysie, the 21st century master of technical innovation ... still navigates by RDF (or thinks he does) but in fact its the kettle biling awa below that's guiding him!
No reason why not, although the VHF will require NMEA input, where as the laptop software could be setup specifically for the Garmin - Got this minor issue with a fixed Garmin 152 talking to Offshore Nav and a M-Tech VHF - not a problem with the location, but Offshore Nav will not upload marks or routes via generic NMEA and requires the GPS to use the GARMIN setting /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Oh well - don't do it too often....
