when I go down to the boat, I come away smelling like a car mechanic. The boat seems to be impregnated in every fibre from , her, once, oily, diesely bilges, uncleaned for years by her uncaring previos owner. Is there any sort of odour neutraliser that I can use/apply to the boat that is known to cure this problem?

cheers

Bilgex seems to help. Other brands seem less good to me.
Previous postings suggest it is not a solvable problem if you have a wood/ply boat that has been soaked in diesel for a long time.
Some car mechanics are very nice chaps and you could simply resign yourself to occaisionally smelling like one. I expect the bilgex and lots of ventilation will work in time.

in my experience, oil will not impregnate grp to the degree where it continues to smell to the extent you describe. you must still have some oil residue / leak down there. find that, and you wont need to disguise the smell with toilet duck.

failing that, try a takeaway curry. that smell seems to linger for ever.
