It's 3 x 2 x 1 cm, plus the base, marked Otter, Buxton England and has the numbers 541560 on the white part in the photo. It is installed in-line in the wiring to a small windlass on my little motor-sailer.

Although this component appears to be many years old, Otter are still around, making temperature control equipment.

Has anyone any experience of using one of these? I have e-mailed Otter for advice but would appreciate any other assistance from the forum.

Thanks.

Some sort of self-resetting, probably thermal, breaker?

A big capacitor to smooth out jaggies that a hefty motor might send back down the line?

Just guessing really :)

Pete

EDIT: Scratch the capacitor, that would be between supply and return, not inline.

If its not working, then you should pull the rivets out with pliers or mole grips and take a picture of the insides for us to have a look, would get a better idea of what makes it tick and exactly what it is

It's a Otter circuit breaker, they are still around at Buxton, and may be able to to supply you a spare.

The little printed strip of paper has the part number on.
