Can a holding tank fill itself or is somebody living on my boat?

I know you are looking for sensible 'Mech Eng' solutions.

However, over the last couple of years , I have seen a few cases of Capitaine/'gardiennage' -induced abuse cases to go back to your original concern, folks living 'aboard'.

I Definite, 2 probable and 1 possible ...... all on one quai.

In the case of the definite it was a family member of the Captain.

However I've only 'noticed' these lodgers in the quiet months. Never in the summer ( perhaps my observatory powers are weak).

I will get the airvalve properly checked out but the tank does'nt seem to fill of it's own accord when we're on the boat ourselves and this is something that has just started to happen since we moved the boat back to Palma. I'm loathe to close the discharge seacock because if there is a genuine prob, say fresh water leaking into the tank, it's going to overflow thru the toilets I guess. The toilets are Techmo units

We found the guy who was supposed to be watching and cleaning our boat in La Rochelle had moved aboard. Blocked the shower and dribbled all over the pillows!!!
Threw him off and he still had the cheek to ask for money.

My holding tank used to self fill a little after each time I had closed the diverter valve.(seacock that is either out to sea, or closed to sea and into tank)

My tank then sprung a slight leak.
I changed tanks for a plastic one and didnt change anything else, all pipes/fittings the same.

The new tank didnt leak but continued to part self fill even when all seacocks were closed.

The self fill rate decreased with in 2 weeks and has now stopped ( 3 months ish).

I have no idea what how it happened /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

I can only assume the water came from the long 2 inch outlet/inlet hoses that combined together could hold 5/10 gals , the only thing I did to stop it was to replace an O ring on the pump out skin fitting, I came to the concusion waste was being stored in that long pipe and was dripping back into the tank when we were away ??????
