Really need to know what's on the opposite end of the yellow.
I'm going to have a guess.
Is it a bow thruster, windlass or charger?
At a guess the yellow was connected to the terminal on the starter motor where the main red supply cable is. This being used as a common distribution point.

I can't help, but I always take photos of wiring before undoing it - the days when I could remember are gone. FWIW yellow is normally a switched live.

The Americans use yellow as DC negative (because they use black for AC live).
Oddly, they also use black for DC negative. As you say though, they do use yellow and as there are no black cables visible in the OP picture i'd also suspect the Yellow is DC negative. I'd see where the other end goes before connecting it though.

Thank you guys . There is black wire goes from negative terminal to ground ; I guess the thick yellow wire ( actually is yellow with thin red strip on it ) not suppose go to starter , because I took pix before remove starter ; however when I connected to negative terminal , the new start doesn’t work ,only one “click “sound when I turn the key (battery shows 12.6v; I do see battery ground wire in the water , I cleaned today )

On my old Volvo, the yellow with red stripe cable went to the key switch on the dash panel via a relay on a engine mounted panel on the engine. The other side of the relay was connected to the alternator via a red cable.
Of course you will need to check for yourself.
