Camping gaz regulator

I expect modern specifications are much higher, but many years ago I had a diaphram split, with a huge gas leak.

Sounds horrible.

Was it the type you screw directly into the Camping Gas bottle?

And when did the leak occur: as you turned the regulator on, or in the midst of cooking or whatever?

I've had two Camping Gas regulator failures over the years. One when a plastic knob broke off, the other I think just failed to turn on. Both inconvenient rather than dangerous. I carry a spare.

Usually use Ebay specials, made in India and replace them every 5 years whether they need to be or not. This year I am due a survey and have invested in a pukka “marine” regulator from a respectable supplier at at least 5 times the price. It looks identical apart from the paper label stuck on the top.

If it actually is a marine one, compliant with Annexe M, it should have provision for a vent pipe for the over pressure relief system, facing downwards, that you connect to a length of tubing that vents overboard.

If it doesnt have the vent pipe, it is probably not Annex M

That’s the sort I had where the tap seized up -
stow a spare 907 in the anchor well
Not sure I would be k
The anchor locker on the S32 is pretty roomy so I keep a spare bottle in there.
Not so roomy when it’s got an anchor in it!
I presume the standard regulators are not part M (so what excuse have chandlers like Force 4 got for selling them?) but I wonder whether the rotary valve is more leak proof than the that on the “proper” ones which turn through 90 degrees on the basis the knob will just keep turning to take up any wear?

Mine has 2 anchors in it+ bucket+ scrubber + 5 lr can of 2T & still room to spare

Right I’ll have to investigate - my 12kg Vulcan must be similar size and shape

Should be. I keep my gas cylinder attached by a simple piece of line to the top plastic carry handle such that the cylinder is tucked up to the aft, portside and top of the locker. It only partially hangs when the scope is out, the rest of the time it semi-rests on the scope so underway it doesn't rock around.
