Camping gas in Turkey.

If they are half full does that make you an optimist ? Jan, my wife, must be a pessimist because she swears they are half empty.
Now in Cesme we cannot get camping gas at all anywhere in the area. We have now got Italgas marine LPG cannisters and had to get a new regulator. They are exactly the same dimensions as Camping gas but with a shield welded to the top and cost 15 Lira for a top up. I quite like them.

I am surprised you can't get it, Cesme seemed very cosmopolitan in contrast with a lot of marinas we have been to. Our gas comes from the third shop outside Netsel Marmaris, they have us over a barrel really as they are the only supplier and as we don't plan on staying I can't see the point in changing over.

Yes we were also surprised but were told it is illegal to fill camping gas bottles in Turkey. We were in Marmaris for 4 years and never had a problem but gave up here after trying for weeks. We bought the Italgas bottles 2 years ago and I guess we could just get our deposit back when we leave. However being LPG I need to check if they could be easy to fill elsewhere, have a feeling it could be so.

More like 70% full to be fair

When in Turkey we had one of the local gas bottles (Milan Gas? Certainly something like that) which held about 2kg and exchanges were about 12-14TL, plus some Gamping Gas type 2.7kg bottles, these costing 20-22TL to exchange/refill. During our whole time there, we found no significant difference in run-out time between the two and always suspected that the filler hose was perhaps pre-set to automatically dispense 2kg of gas and then stop, so that's what went into both types.
