Campbeltown Loch

For those of us who spend all summer sailing the west coast of Caledonia (this year excepted) one of the benefits of Campbeltown is a Tesco a few minutes away from the harbour for a big shop. There aren't many close to the water. Oban is the next one. Then it's Kyle of Lochalsh, Ullapool & Stornoway.

Last time I mentioned this I got a load of grief for not buying all my food at tiny Co-Ops that have 3 rubbery carrots, some yellow broccoli & a loaf of bread reserved for Liùsaidh McLeod that I can't have. So waiting for incoming...

The Co-Op at Campbeltown is pretty good, although certainly a bit further from the pontoon. In Oban I use Tesco or Lidl and from Crinan I take a bus to Lochgilphead Co-Op and usually a taxi back. That's also handy by bus from Ardrishaig or, during a transit, from the pontoons near Lochgilphead. There is a smaller but very helpful Co-Op in Mallaig.

Not from me. Get it where you can, I say.

I was in Campbelltown last year on business. Whisky magazine has decided a hotel there has the world's best whisky bar. Unfortunately cannot remember the name. Certainly had a superb selection and the staff certainly were knowledgeable. Not cheap mind.

Was anchored last night beside NATO pier and off early this morning. Good holding and shelter from NE wind if you are far enough in. A virus isolating crew (prefers to stay at least 100 meters away from anyone breathing) was happier there than on pontoons.

Campbeltown was the 'Whisky Capital' of the world once. Hence, "Campbeltown Loch I wish you were whisky". Ah, Andy Stewart! He smoked pot with my Belfast in-laws once. But whisky was his downfall.
