That's rather the problem, it's plastic, not paper; combining sewage systems with these works of beelzebub result in endemic blockages and fairly disgusting rafts of the things on beaches.

Thanks Penfold - never too late to learn! I had fondly imagined that as they were made on paper machines - they were in fact a 'form' of paper, which they are but synthetic (not pulp) based.

We did see a boat locking into the Crinan Canal. Do locals use that much? How much does it cost? I've visited the west of Scotland many times before but I'm always blown away by how lovely the cruising area is. Now if only somebody could fix the weather:D
The weather is all that keeps this place habitable... if the weather was good it would be overrun by Range Rover driving villa owners who insist on street lighting and other abominations.

I wonder how many yachts today don't have any hot shower facilities, or cannot rig up same. If you don't have, or cannot rig up, hot shower facilities - what do you do when these are not provided, say when you anchor. Presumably fresh water and power is still available?

Kettle, cockpit tent, garden sprayer, towel. Sorted.

There is a subconscious at play here, associating Campbeltown with shit and disposable ass wipe. Maybe it’s not subconscious ...

For what it's worth:
Was in Campbeltown a week last Saturday , didn't even notice the showers weren't available. Went round the Mull on 23rd in 28 footer (no shower and limited water:) )Wind southerly 5-6, boat went like train. Visited Ardfern and Oban this last week, both had showers open.

For a 4-5 year period we used to spend a week between Xmas and New Year in The Lost Valley, a specific night in Aviemore and then a week at The Shelter Stone - climbing. I don't recall water really being mentioned and certainly cannot believe anyone used the word 'shower'.

Times change (and my tolerance of cold has diminished with the changing times and I confess to enjoying a hot shower when on passage).

10s of 1000s I would think mine included although whether they are used for cruising uch for morre than a few days at a time is another matter.

I think comenting on expected facilities being shut something is somewhat different to whingeing about it. It was a minor inconvenience. No, we dir not use to to shower and mwash as much as we do now, but then neither did we use to have inside toilets, running water etc. and huge tranches of the world do not still.

When it is just my wife and I am quite happy having a strip wash on our boat, however sailing in company on someone else's boat is different.

There was no suggestion of not having a shower.

The key was

'Or cannot rig up the same'

Has not some local entrepreneur offered black polythene bags with a short hose and a cheap sprinkler on the end. Leave black bag in the sun, shortly thereafter the black bag of cold water has mysteriously converted to a black bag with hot water from which you can have a shower. It is quite possible to invest in 2 bags - oddly 2 bags take the same length of time to heat up. With 2 bags you can take a shower together, saves being accused of being a voyeur. I understand you, in the UK, have just enjoyed a good few days of Australian weather presumably some spin off of the new trade agreement, so surely this was the time to have a hot shower, on board - whether in Cambelltown or places even further north.

Such bags were de rigour on our J24 and then transferred to our X-99 - neither of which had showers nor a fresh water pump.. They fitted neatly under the bungy strung on the cockpit hatch. The water used to flow courtesy of Isaac, of apple fame - who dictated that the water would cascade down if the black bag was hoisted over ones head - the whole event amazing technology. But it seems to have gone out of fashion - for a paltry strip wash and a whinge

:). :). :). :)

Take care, stay safe
