I don't think that they have traditional narrow boats on the Midi or any of the French waterways for that matter! (but I could be wrong)
French barges are much bigger and wider than UK boats as the canals are wider.
Lots of Companies hire 'canal boats' (more like floating caravans than barges) to tourists on the Midi, they are a PITA to other boats on passage, especially on handover day, as training is minimal.

There used to be a narrow/wide-beam hirer on the Canal du Midi and the western Canal de Garonne - Minervois Cruisers. But no more.
