In our experience (not those areas) if there are any yachtie facilities around then somebody usually does a weekly run to the filling place. If no yachtie facilities then you'll need to find a filling station yourself, possibly by taxi cos they're often out of town (for obvious reasons).

We did an Atlantic circuit with British Calor bottles, 3 butane 1 propane, always managed to get them filled. i.e. in Cork, at the refinery, often at garages that filled campers and lpg cars. We didn,t have any adaptors of our own.

Depends on the fitting of your bottle over here- you might have to buy a new one and a new fitting (£12 cyp for a full new bottle and 3-4 pounds for a fitting) They don't do refills here, you just swaps your bottle /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Get in touch if you come this way /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Just ask: other yachties, the marina, the local garage, whoever. Of the countries you list I am only familiar with Turkey and Egypt. However gas refills seem universally available outside Britain and France, though in some countries its easier to get butane, others propane, so ideally carry two bottles of each.

The procedure differs. In some places you have to get to the plant -organise a few yachties and find a taxi driver willing to carry the bottles. Elsewhere there will be a collection service organised by a marina, or sometimes a local shop or an enterprising taxi driver. The first is VERY much cheaper, I reckon to pay around £2-3 for a 14lb bottle.

The Calor Gas bottles are excellent, slow to rust and stand up to serious overfilling (but don't have the float protection that the US now demands).

The fitting for propane cylinders seems universal, and in practice they always manage to fit Calor Gas butane cylinders, so you don't need to carry adaptors. But Camping Gas butane cylinders can rarely be refilled outside the countries where they are exchanged.

Not in the Caribbean. Refills available everywhere, except the French islands where they are exchanged.

When we go there again, I'll buy an American aluminum cylinder. No more rust stains! According to the Calor shop in Southampton, they'll refill any cylinder, provided it is in test date.

[/ QUOTE ] Not quite. Last year I was refused in Grenada, St Kitts, USVI, Puerto Rico and Cuba (yes, I'm persistent).

Martinique and Guadaloupe will exchange Camping Gas cylinders in the main cities, and in the past I've had them refilled in Trinidad, Barbados and Antigua.
