Calling Walton Backwaters experts

broad church

I agree - people can take to the water in whatever sort of boat they like

that does not mean that I have to express my delight at every slab sided mobile apartment block I see, hear or ride the wake of as I travel around the coast

while I love seeing an old boat in full sail seeing a £200,000 caravan gives me no pleasure at all - not a bit

but anyobne spotted any mistakes yet?

Dylan

Hi Dylan,

I'm not going to be of any practical use on the accuracy issue but thanks for taking the time to do these video clips.
I've got a bit hooked and between you and Nathan 'Onkudu' they've been some of the best stuff on Youtube and a good reminder why we love boats.

I really should of got you a Sunseeker or similar calendar for Christmas. :D
I've owned MOBO's for 12 years since my little Norman 18 I bought on a whim from a mate at work and they all have a place (and without them i'd not be Sailing today) and (as i mentioned on another of your threads) i'm a man of limited hair who drives a BMW so i'm not a fan of stereotypes.

But other than that, great vids and some amazing scenary that we're blessed with on the East Coast.

Thanks for sharing,

Nick

Not spotted any obvious mistakes (although I was less focused on error spotting, and more on enjoying the lovely footage).... but a bit surprised that you didn't turn off Hamford Water and into Bramble Creek..... i would have thought that a narrow muddy channel, occasionally visited by very large vessels, and sporting a rather dilapidated explosives factory would have been prime Dylan Winter material!!! :)

FWIW, I agree with FC above, and think you sometimes overdo the invective... but overall do very much enjoy your glimpses.... in particular I enjoyed #47.... a perfect illustration of the joys of the Backwaters....We too have enjoyed many a summer evening of barefoot walks along the sand at LW and exploring the fabulous 'mud art' in the small creeks... keep 'em coming!

bramble - oakley - harwich harbour - deben - alde - ore - butley

thanks for kind words

more to come through the weeks of winter

I am hoping to post something every Friday - but the properly made vids take me five or six days to put together

and I am killing cameras at a horrible speed

of course if I get some decent paid work then it will all stop again

as for invective....

you should see my inbox

blimey there are some chippy so and sos out there - but that is my fault for putting my email address on the end of each video and having the temerity to put stuff on the web

Thanks for the developing series which has, as others have said above, been cracking!!

As for your comments about other water users I suspect that you are well within your rights to share your very personal opinions on a medium such as YouTube. The jet ski riders of Essex have the right to put up videos slagging off old gits in slow sailing boats boats for mooring their yachts in the middle of the best bits of flat water, just where they want to ride their noisy toys.

It would be interesting to hear a spirited defence of the asthetics of patio doored motor boats. There used to be a wonderful one on the Crouch with a large (very obviously home made) shed like superstructure made from white painted fibreboad balanced on top of a small power boat hull. Never saw it move.

Cor, now he tells me, after we've put him on our website!!

apologies for the vinegar - its just that I am stupid enough to think that patio doors and balconies are designed for houses rather than boats - crazy idea I know...

Dylan

I am not necessarily disagreeing with you, just that everyone has a right to float on whatever pleases them. Thats what is so great about our passion.

Enjoyed yours (& Nathan's) video's greatly. Have to agree with you over the 3 storey gin palaces, many of whom can't resist charging through peaceful moorings at great speed annoying everyone. Also have recently noticed your thoughts about BMW car drivers are very accurate -particularly some BMW owners in the snow last week. Perhaps some are also owner said gin palaces.

Hello Dylan,
just found your wonderful videos. I grew up sailing weekends out of West Mersea in the 60's and 70's. Since I now live in the US of A i am going to enjoy running thru all your videos! I have The really extensive Cheaspeake Bay near me to do my gunk holing in.....I miss the mud though!
Is you boat one of the Mirror 'motor sailors"?

thanks a lot
