I know you also have a SH GX2150 I think. Have you set it uo to make a DSC call from your chart plotter or has any one done this to date.

I think it's the 2100 I have. I believe this is one of the radios that doesn't accept incoming DSC sentences, though my AIS display does emit them. I can't remember whether I wired the relevant NMEA link when I installed the kit.

In practice I rarely make DSC calls, and the one time I wanted to do so to an AIS target, I selected it from the list on the radio.

Just interested. I have a RAM in the cockpit onto my GX2000 and my OpenCPN PC at my chart table with remote display in the cockpit so that facility would be of little use to me any way.

B&G's V50 has AIS built in, and a reasonable sized screen to look at them on. And if you add the H50 wireless handset (which has very clear AIS--> MMSI --> VHF calling functionality) you can call from the cockpit, whilst standing next to your chartplotter.

Whilst not quite meeting his stated requirements, I think this delivers exactly what the OP is trying to achieve.

Thanks to everone above for your suggestions and related discussion. I have now come to the conclusion that although there are a few products that meet my requirements i don't think it is worth another £150ish on top of a basic VHF for a feature i will only rarely use and can be overcome by writing down the mmsi from the ais and tapping it into the vhf (or just call by boat name)

Thanks all
