No, seriously, Wharrams have a lot going for them - well proven to be seaworthy, and it is still possible to acquire one that is not too expensive, yet not too much of a wreck either.

You could probably get a cat built by Eric Schoeman for that sort of money, but then you really, really, really shouldn't go to sea in it. Alas, it should be fine while firmly tied up in a marina, so perfect for liveaboard.

I spent three years looking for my cat and now think I know it all when it comes to what's available for a certain price band. PM your true budget and I may be able to point you in a few directions.

Where do you want to cruise to? An elderly Prout (bit more than 50p) might fit the bill.

I always wanted a Prout 34 Event or 37 Snowgoose. Not the cheapest for the good reason that they are solid, they work, they keep going and someone will probably take it off your hands for at least as much as you paid, should you ever want to sell.

I'd have bought one but they went bust just before I was ready to put my money where my mouth was.

The Prout is a nice ocean going boat, but if liveaboard is the priority and cash is short, a Catalac 9m is really worth looking at. Accomodation is better than the prout, but it doesnt sail as well to windward. Its also slightly narrower so French Canals are easier.

Mine is a 1982 version (one of the last before they were re-resurrected as the 900) I have owned her for 20 years and have just reduced the price to £27750.

Main reason for sail is a divorce, and unfortunately cant take another boat in part exchange as I now live in Norway and import tax is crippling.

You may be able to find early/or versions needing TLC for £15k or even less, but you would need to spend more than the difference to achieve the same standard of equipment.
