Portsmouth Marine Engineering 'marina', Fareham Creek, Portsmouth Harbour.

Next to my very undesirable Wharram there is a Prout cat of about 33ft. Looks scruffy, but has been well maintained by a very decent, elderly chap. He appears regularly, runs engine, stays overnight and potters about checking everything etc.

I'll put in my plug for a Prout (had ours 2 months, very happy). We don't liveaboard but since we've had Chellers we've stayed overnight at the marina for the fun of it loads more than on our old monohull.

Room in our Event 34 seems very good although it's awkward having 2 people in the galley. Also I find that storage spaces inside aren't very spacious so we tend to use the front cabin for sails and cockpit cushions and other stuff. Bed is very comfortable to sleep on. Headroom is fine (I'm 5'9, I reckon 6'4 might be a struggle though). Build quality seems excellent so far.

The Event 34 is outside your price range, unfortunately, and we found when looking at older Quests that they didn't do it for us, but there seem to be a number of Prouts being sold through random marinas and small brokerages so you could get lucky on something. We went to view one at Canvey Island (where Prouts originally came from) and there were several different Prouts up on the hard for sale - no idea where they are being advertised, if at all; they had 'for sale' boards on 'em. If it's not too far from you, might be worth a look.
