For masthead:-

Square root of I squared + J squared

For 7/8 fractional:-

Square root of (I *.875) squared + J squared

Am I going wrong somewhere?

Alternatively if someone has the definitive forestay lengths for a GK29 masthead rig (known as the family racer) and the fractional (known as the half-tonner), I'd appreciate it!

Am I missing something here? Why calculate when you can measure? Pull the end of a cloth tape up with a halyard (binocs to make sure the end is in the right place) or pull up a line, mark it and measure it at deck level. Think this must be a 'racing thing'? /forums/images/icons/frown.gif

I doubt it. On my boat certainly, the mast is on the coachroof, and so is above the
forestay fitting, and therefore I do not have a right angled triangle.
