Calais Rally

After 12 hours of hard sailing in strong winds and lumpy seas from the Blackwater we got to Calais on Saturday night only to find that the bridge to the marina didn't open. The light went amber at the right times but nothing else happened. When we finally opened at 1am, we were too tired to care, spent the night on a buoy and left the next morning. I still haven't been to Calais Rally.

That might explain the diver that we saw going down there on Sunday. I think it was Sunday anyway, my memory is faulty for some reason.

There were definately some new arrivals when we came back from our evening meal on the Saturday evening so the bridge must opened at some point. (I was quite surprised that nobody had rafted off us)

I wonder if the bridge only opens at night if boats are visibly jilling around?

The bridge is operated by a man in the control room, I guess if there are no boats moving around when the orange light is on he wont bother to open the bridge.
