I was there yesterday, the work is still not completed, maybe the end of September. There is space for visitors on the South wall but not the best of places to be.

Brilliant, can't beat personal experience. Many thanks, will probably avoid Calais now. Currently enjoying the sunshine in St Malo after a couple of months in North Brittany.

Dont want to put you off, probably OK for a one night stop or pick up one of the buoys on the outside of the lock gates, or if you can dry out try the wall in the small harbour ( even the drying grid would be OK )

Some friends passed through Calais at the end of August on their way into the canals heading south to the Med. I received the following from them........

We weren't sure what reception we were going to get in Calais, as the marina had officially been closed to visitors for nearly a year, as they are undertaking major works to improve the facilities. Happily, a nice French lady was on the pontoon to direct us to a suitable spot for mooring. Visitors spaces are still very limited, but the welcome is the same. It seems that the works are overunning and are over budget. Its not just in the UK that this sort of thing happens then.

Upon enquiry, it seems that it's still possible to get the masts lowered here, I just need to go and ask Freddie, the chap who runs the chandlery.

I haven't been over since the end of Aug but the latest is

"September 29: Area-consultation meeting representatives of recreational boaters to rate
September 30: theoretical end of poses paving and asphalt
Mid-October: two operational hoists
Second half of October: travel pontoons and basin bottom boats for implementation in their new configuration
October-November: new parking + final work securing new dock and provisional flushing basin side"

So it looks like the pontoon will be back in place by the end of October and the travel hoist may be working. This should have all been finished by May this year.
I will stay out of the water until next year now. Fingers crossed I will be back on my berth by May 2017!

Latest News
Getting there maybe another month, The travelhoist is being delivered in the next 2 weeks., The visitors pontoon is back in place.
