Cala D'Or berthing fees going up by 15%

Our apartment is in Cala D’Or just behind the marina so it’s logical that our boat should be there. Having said that we only use the boat between May & October so may look at alternatives to annual berthing contract - keeping the boat on dry land and just dropping her in when we are there. I know we will pay higher daily rates when in the water but if it saves on an annual basis then it could be worthwhile.

II think Portals has dry stacking for boats my size and although not on the door step it is less than an hours drive so may also be worth investigating.

Not really a solution for those with bigger boats but could work for us.

I think the Portals dry stack has gone to make space for a car park / restaurants / apartments.

The Mallorca prices above are just crazy. Yep, you can berth in SCM for peanuts but there are alternatives. We're quite happy for now in the Costa Blanca as are quite a few other forumites. Here's some drone footage of where we are...

Incidentally, do you see the little bay next to the marina where they yacht is? Story is that a couple of years ago someone anchored their brand new £1m 40ft powercat there and fly home for a couple of weeks (too tight to pay for a berth). They never did find the engines.....

Mainland Spain is fine if you only visit the boat for longer periods (1 week plus)

If you are into 3 day weekend visits then the mainland is rubbish - not many places to go, longish trips from the airport and although the islands are ‘only’ 5 hours away £2000 a weekend in fuel and pretty soon you don’t mind the £2k a month berthing fees....

Chum of mine kept his first Targa in Nice , moved to Majorka the following year and has kept all his boats there ever since.
Did eventually manage to get in to Cala d Or from Palma and then moved round to Porto Petro.

Or like someone said lease a mooring. Only had my first mooring in portals for just over a year (12x4). Bought for €100k sold for €125k one year later. Currency also went in my favour - although kind of irrelevant as just bought another one. Have my current 15x5 mooring leased until 2031, works out at €25k pa. I could probably sell it right now for the same price I leased it. So basically last 3 years would have cost nothing. I guess downside is paying for it all up front.

Has anybody any idea of the visitors mooring fees at the moment for a 16 m.? Thanks.
16 x 5.25m - 92.56 High season 70.24 mid season 47.93 low season plus VAT.

But that is from a list send to me in February. It may well have gone up by 15% now.

So that would be 127.80 incl VAT high season. There does always seem to be room on the visitors pontoon.

Not sure I'd agree with that. Cala D'Or is an hour from the airport so no better in that respect than the mainland. And actually, Alicante is a short taxi ride from the airport which has loads of flight to / from the UK. We'll be doing long weekends throughout the summer; flying out Fri after work (on the boat in time for last orders) and returning Tues afternoon. There are some nice local anchorages and marinas that we can enjoy too.

With that and the no anchoring are they determined to wreck their economy?

They've already tried to wreck their own economy with their stupid matriculation tax thing in 2009 which drove me and a lot of other boaters out of the Balearics. Even worse than other Med countries, I think the Spanish see foreign boaters as a cash cow that can be milked whenever they want, rather than a highly valuable tourism asset

well that is a no brainer who would pay £3000 per month on the Island escapes me...…. In my world that is mental money

The 3000 I quoted was in Euros, not that it makes that much difference. And that is what it will be next year, this year it is "only" £2,250 per month.

Pete - how much would berthing be for a 61 footer?

Just a couple of points on the cost of Balearic mooring -
There is a severe shortage of larger berths as marinas were built when there were very few boats over 50 feet so there were relatively few berths needed whereas now a starter boat for many is that size or more.
IMHO Mallorca/Ibiza are the best places in the Med for boating so there is constant demand not only from visitors but mainly from people who have property as well as a boat.
Prices for berths of 40 ft (12mtrs )or under aren’t too bad, the big prices come with bigger boats

If you think that berths are expensive, you should see the price of property on Ibiza . It’s supply and demand.

In Torrevieja International Marina, list price for a 20m berth for a year would be @ 5,500 euros plus VAT and G5 tax (probably about 1,500 euros), 30 mins from Alicante airport. However you would probably get it for less through local broker renting out privately owned berths.

Thanks Pete. I am 18.77m x 4.88m

According to my spreadsheet, it would be €21k p.a. Not SCM prices by any means but a good bit cheaper than Cala D'Or.

K, that seems really cheap compared to where we are. Why is it so much dearer to the North?

What's it like south of Alicante?

Do you have a price list for Alicante itself?

Whitlighter got me prices form St Carles and they were silly expensive ( E2k less than Cala Dor for winter. It seems only the private berths are cheap.

The Island is pretty full and the reality is that supply and demand are at play. Personally I think they are cruising for a bruising as politically they are anti tourist and the weed thing will I believe cause a load of grief this year .... and boats can move.

I love Mallorca and thing the cruising is 10/10 - however there are other places to go and anything gets boring after a while.
