(1) NT is old technology and superceded by the NT+
(2) NT + runs on almost all units ( except ofr the latests chartplotters many of which hacve dual Max and NT + slots
the list can be obtained at the C Map site)
(3) Beware the NT + that is less rectangular and almost square this is the hidden Furuno type and is not alwasys listed as such, but only works in Furuno units! (Clever marketing eh!) Many used chips are sold as normal when they are Furuno only
(4) Max only works in Max enabled chartplotters see C map list)
(5) Max covers a huge area such as Northern Europe, unless you purchase a Max chip that is designed for a smaller area, which seems to be defeating the whole idea of Max
(6) Superwide Max covers whole continents ( best deal )
(7) Beware Max that is labelled for special chartplotters
The whole of the Med, Adriatic and Black Sea for 245 Pounds inc VAT and shipment to Cyprus seems a pretty good deal to me - especially as I shall be cruising a lot of it this year.
The memory size and speed of the processor play a big part in choice, too. Simplistically, put a chart covering a vast area in an old plotter or PC, press any control button and go and make a cup of tea while it responds. New equipment is amazingly fast and has huge memory capability, that's why it can deal with charts covering most of Europe. My 5 year old Raymarine with an NT+ chart is a dinosaur by comparison.
Thanks everyone for the lessons.
My plotter is the Navman 5607 which is c-map mega wide compatable, and I have the max mega wide card which covers europe up to iceland, which I dont think I will be visiting, well not until all the ice melts anyway. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
My mate has the Northstar 557 which has same spec as mine but smaller, he is thinking about buying the nt + card for it, but I am not sure it is compatable on the 557
My plotter and card combination should show all bouyage and channel lights actualy flashing on the chart screen, but I cant see anything in the manual about setting up to show this feature.has any of you got this knowledge or have the same unit and has used this feature? I would be keen to hear from you.
Thanks, C_W
Navman do not always use all the functionality available from the charts. I suspect that these flashing lights are a good example - a good way of distracting you especially at night if the plotter is at the helm.

If that feature is not enabled, then no - you will not.
But
I do not know what features are available, so suggest a good read of the instruction book despite that being almost totally impossible for most people /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif
