Spark has posted on the insurance thread below and signs off with his URL. It's well worth a click, or two. Warning - it may make you feel inadequate.

I've been talking about Spark all day down at the boathouse. What beautiful workmanship. Unfortunately everyone listens to my rantings, take one look at my efforts and say "Oh yer, Right."

OMG

A thing of beauty she is

This is what I (and much more impotantly, a bunch of 15-25 year old kids) made:
<A target="_blank" HREF=http://carolusquinto.tripod.com>http://carolusquinto.tripod.com</A>

The Carolus Quinto is beautifull, but this is pure craftsmanship, raised to a level of art.

How do you get the planking to flare like that without stringers? We started with steaming the stringers around moulds, and forming the planking around this skeleton.

Yeh OK granted, she's pretty. But only Cat B so, on seaworthiness grounds, I think I'll stick to the Bav. :)

I did consider making a gimballed surface for the hob but I have to draw the line somewhere or the damned job will go on forever. I have found in the past that deep pans, half filled with stew don't spill and pressure cookers are bomb-proof.

With clinker planking is relatively easy to get flare. The bevels on the lands (joins) do it for you. When you build by eye you can skip the tedium of drawing, lofting, molds and battens - the hull grows nicely by itself.

Full time job (more or less) which started last April. Save up and then live on potatoes and herring.

How big's yer Bav? With STIX size is worth a lot.

Theory aside, the proof of the pudding is how they behave in a blow. I've run before a gale in the Minch in a 25' open clinker sgoth with very little effort. I've also skittered and broached my way from the Canaries to Cape Verde in a 40' fin keeled cruiser/racer and wished, day and night, that I was in the old sgoth.

Your Bav might beat me on speed and will certainly have more room inside but I'd argue the toss on seaworthiness :)

Thanks to all for the kind words. The job has got to the stage where encouragement is very much appreciated.

Re: By golly, she\'s jolly

well she is lovely anyway
the workmanship looks totally first rate, a real work of art.
when is the launch date planned?
and where is she going to be moored?
would love to see her in the water under way
