I am currently in Turkey and now that the winters almost here and i've stopped cruising i'd lýke to do some jobs to the boat.

I was thinking of fitting a NASA Clipper Navtex but if I buy from Nasa's Turkish distributor the price is 560USD + tax but this is a bit steep when you can get them in the UK for about 250 quid including VAT.

So the questions are. Is it easy to source from abroad and import into Turkey? Will I have trouble with Turkish customs/tax? Would it help to have packages marked 'yacht in transit' or something similar? And would I have to pay U.K. VAT (presumably I would when I came back into the EU and naturally i'd bend over backwards to see that they got their pound of flesh)?

Any help greatly appreciated.

sounds like a trip to the turkish customs people would be time well spent. Carrying copies of chandlery catalogues is always a good nootion, because it can facilitate the order of that vital part.
