Having read it, they are not blaming the Brits, and they seem pretty convinced he is not a Brit, but probably american. Several comments about lack of UK email address, responding to emails at 3am UK time etc.

Hmm yes. When reading such scam, one should try reading it with a native Nigerian accent - it then all becomes clear. 419 springs to mind.

Being in Nigeria its great to see what they can come up with next, can you see our police taking 50p off every motor car in a sham road block, or customs coming onto you boat and carrying away all booze and anything they fancy well that happens here, we don't get our tanker loaded if they can not get there booty.

So it looks very Nigerian to me perhaps someone's brother is staying in the states
