Ok, now we are no stranger's to buying boats (nearly buying boats!)
First boat that we attempted to buy was a Sealine F36 but that had loads of problems which were uncovered by the survey, so it was not worth the bother cost e.t.c.
Second boat we nearly bought was a Phantom 37 from Peters, on the day I signed the contract I was made redundant, Peter's luckely were good enough to let me cancel the contract the next day.
Now, I have got a new job and have found another Phantom 37 but it is for sale privately.
Question numero uno.) How can I be sure it does not have any finance e.t.c attached to it. (It is part 1 registered)
Question numero dos.) How do I get a contract made up. Do I need to get soliciters invloved e.t.c

Actually, if you just visit the RYA website, you can download all the paperwork you need. This includes a contract which will allow you to pay an agreed deposit in front of a witness subject to you having the vessel survey done within an agreed time. It also gives you all the advice and you can also download their Bill of Sale contract. All of this you can do in a few minutes of your time online. This is the recommended way to go and well worth the effort for the peace of mind. I have just bought my first boat this way. Good luck.

If you buy using a marine mortgage the finance house do all the searches to ensure good title to protect their own investment. Once the sale is complete you can always pay the money back. OK it may cost a couple of hundred pounds this way but: a. you don't have any grief, b. you get a clear title.

Moose if its on part 1 then its clear title, find out who registered it, phone Cardiff they will give details, surely owner will help if he really wants to sell it anyway, it will show who has an interest in it financially anyway on the paperwork at registry, it will also have more than 5 years continuall ownership to be on the register as well, safe one this, also could try all main finance houses they will help you, ask owner how he paid for it, if he stalls and mumbles then walk away, make sure you ask him to his face, dont do it on the phone.

Dont want to talk out of turn but why are you mad for one of these?, someone in our home marina bought a new one way back, it fell to pieces first time out to sea, tanks leaked, windows broke etc, just beware!.

If it's pt one as you say, you can search the part one register for around a tenner. Any mortgage secured on the vessel will be shown.

I'm not sure of the number but They'e based in cardiff. The registar of ships and seamen I believe.

You can get their number from the RYA as well, however, if she is pt one I DON'T think you can use the RYA bill of sale to complete the purchase.

Best give them a call.
