Buying our first boat

[ QUOTE ]

The only petrol available is at Pwllheli and Conwy.

I was going to mention that!

Forget petrol unless you want to severely limit your range or are happy to lug can after can of petrol every weekend like I have to do.

My next boat WILL be diesel.

Nautorius mentioned Merry Fishers by Jeanneau and I mention the Antares by Beneteau. Jeanneau owns Beneteau and the two ranges are very similar, if not almost identical in some models, but the advantage of the Beneteau Antares is that their main dealer is just down the road and there are many Antares in use in the area and many for sale, so you have a choice of many models and loads of examples of each model.

Ive noticed Florida boats stock a lot of these.

I live nextdoor to Florida boats so if you have any questions let me know and I can pop round there.

thank you all for your helpful kind words. If this forum is indicative of the kind of people who go boating then I am sure we are getting involved in the right pursuit.

Many thanks for making me welcome. I will keep you all informed.

Hi - we have purchased our first boat in the last few months. After much hunting and viewing we bought a second hand Doral 250SE (2002) with diesel engine. Spent quite a lot of time debating the diesel/pettrol question, but on the first trip with the new boat (about 105 miles) was very grateful that we chose diesel /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif. So far very pleased - good size, works well for entertaining, suits the two kids and enough room for the odd overnight. You should find one (newish) within your budget too. If you want more info let me know.
