After a trip out here to france and a day crawling all over the boat on teusday , it appears the dealer concerned had already taken a deposit at the weekend and had neglected to tell me :livid:. To be fair it was a bit of a timing issue and the boat was a bit of a steel ( but needs considerable repairs imho ) so I should have expected others being interested , but the dealer sat on the boat with us trying to sell it for an hour knowing he had taken a deposit ?!?!

So , next time ?

Don`t take anyones word at face value and probably don't mention anything on here until deal is done as you never know who is reading ( uk buyer )
Hope it works out for the buyer , my hesitance was based on cloudy ownership issues .

A big thankyou to the forumites who advised me and put me in the picture .
 
Oh well....at least you have had a pleasant trip to SoF.

If it is of any interest, I do hear that a well specced Fairline 78 berthed in Antibes may shortly become available as the owner ( who is well known for looking after his boats extremely well ) is looking to buy a Princess 82. :rolleyes: :D

Andy, that must be disappointing for you both; at least you have had some sunshine as the Bank Holiday weekend isn't looking too promising.

Our house sale/purchase was a nightmare and I got really hacked off with people saying - what will be will be; but now looking back, the end result exceeded our wildest dreams.

So while I am not going to say - what will be will be; I am certain that when you do find the right boat, both of you will be glad you didn't buy this one. :)

i can think of worse places to spend a wet and windy bank holiday weekend!!

Its amazing how emotional boat buying is.

For every boat we have ever loved (and we have had one or two we didnt love) the feeling you get when you see it is very powerful! for our current boat i knew the very moment i opened the barn doors that it was "right" and thankfully all the head based stuff stacked up too.

I would have been really annoyed if that had happened to me so think you have every right to be a little peeved! hope something better comes up soon for you!
 
We are sat in the square at Antibes enjoying beer/sunshine and cheerfully thinking that if the pound keeps dropping the euros I bought forward will pay for the trip ;)
 
Don't get sucked into a purchase just because it's cheap. You already had doubts about ownership and condition. Go with your first thought. Sounds like you are better off without it.
 
Andy , it all sounded too good to be true, I do wonder if the broker would have taken a deposit from you along with my friends deposit , I think you had a close call on this one . Next Thursday will no doubt reveal all after survey and sea trial. Keep looking mate that's the fun part in buying .
There is no such thing as a cheap boat.
 
As I see it now , the dealer was advertising it before he actually owned it and just wanted to sell quickly as he had to buy it himself to deregister Italian flag
 
Nope ,but if you show an interest on a public forum you probably don't help yourself if there is any kind of race going on , ask whitelighter !!

Sharing it on the forum didn't attract anyone else from the Forum, the deposit was paid on the boat before your plane left the ground, it's the broker who led you to France as a back up to sell his boat just incase my friend doesn't go through with the deal. I didn't know he was buying another boat until he offered me his old boat Wednesday PM this week, I then found out it must be the same boat hence my alert to you PDQ.
This reminds me exactly what happened to me when I found a V48 at a very attractive price to arrive supposedly being the only party interested , we arrived to be in a que of buyers, we wanted to pay a deposit 30 mins after looking at it, the broker told us it was under arrest from the finance house, it had tax due on it etc. when I look back all lies form two French brokers, I bet a higher price was offered hence I lost out. Still La Grande motte was a quirky place to spend a weekend in miserable November and we just put it down to experience. Not sure I'd do it again as too much trust is required in my opinion. I'll name the brokers andy if you name this one, save anyone else a wasted journey.
 
And this is a cheap boat?
Does look very cheap to me and there are loads of them a bit bigger at same or cheaper?
Admitedingly not princess.
