Looking for some advice on buying a Yacht in Cyprus and keeping it in a marina in there.
The boat is currently registered to the owner who is a Cypriot, under the Cyprus flag.
What would I need to do as a British citizen to make sure the boat is registered and I am legally correct to keep and sail there?
I would not be living in Cyprus just visiting every so often.
Yacht is VAT paid.

I believe I need the following:
1. Bill of Sale
2. Deletion Certificate
3. VAT Certificate

Is there anything else I need to know/worry about!?

Your help is much appreciated.
Thanks

Quite straightforward. Yes, that is what you need, plus you need to determine that there are no outstanding charges against the boat. suspect that the Cypriot register will also be a register for charges (like the Greek register) so the deregistration will confirm that there are no charges. make sure you see all the original documents before handing over the money, although it is normal to actually get the deregistration afterwards. You can check with the registry about any charges beforehand.

As soon as you get the final certificate you can register on line with the uK register on the SSR. You can convert later onto Part 1 if you wish, but that will require a tonnage survey. Insure from the time you pay and title passes to you.

Many thanks for that. That's put my mind at rest a bit ;-) Still worried about the whole thing as this it's a first for me!

The broker sent me a copy of an invoice (for information) from the department of merchant shipping showing that all fees are paid for the year 2015. It showed annual maintenance fees of €300 and Radio Licence €17. On the top of the invoice in hand writing (the broker wrote) it said Tonnage Tax. Am I responsible for these seeing that the Yacht will be on the SSR?
Are there any other annual charger or taxes that I would have to pay to keep and sail in Cyprus?

Thanks again.

Suspect those fees are for Cypriot registered boats. However there may well be some fees like light dues that apply to all boats. Expect the broker would know, as would marina staff.

Annual tonnage tax €300 and annual radio license €17 are the only "official" taxes you need to pay (Cyprus registered boats). Appart from these are of course insuarance and marina charges.
