My wife and I are total beginners in the boating scene. We have max 60k STG to spend ona boat but would rather it were less! We are looking for a diesel sports boat, one with a cuddly which provides galley and room for 2. We have found the BMB 25DC which seems to fit the bill but Im sure there are other boats out there too??

My biggest issue is depreciation. In cars we all know that Fiats depreciate quicker than Audi's but in the boating world I don't have clue as to what is good/bad.

Any help gratefully appreciated and will post more detail if required.

Well. I'd save some of your 60 grand for your second boat cos your definatly not going to get it right first time. So go for something second hand, so some one else takes the loss. Then buy something just a bit bigger than you imagined. Not sure what a BMB is?? Buy a well know make and model. Sea Line etc and you might even make money on it. But should not loose alot.

There have been a few recent requests for similar information , boats for 60K ish. Its worth you flicking back a few pages looking for the questions.

Also, see if you can got hold of August's Motor Boat and Yachting. They run a feature on second hand boats between 25k and 50k. Some good suggestions made like Fairline targa28, Fairline targa 31, Princess 286 and some Sealine boats.

Hi scooby I agree, you do not give your location? Sealine do a good range in boats the s23 you can get new. or the maxum 24. but found the after sales on maxum not forthcoming. I own a sealine s23 (and have a 3 year buy back at the price I paid should I upgrade) I am based at the bottom of the hamble. If you live near or plan to be based in this area. I will gladly show you over my boat and give some pointers. e-mail if I can be of help.

As others have said Fairline Targa 28/29 almost in range. Likewise a Sealine S28. Also worth considering is Cranchi Giada 29 or 30.

If you ask Wiggy nicely he might sell you his Targa 29 for £60k.

Can get a brand spanking new Jeanneau Leader 805 for that better than a BMB 35 and bags more room as it has a lot more beam. Bette finish too.

Pro sealine here, Sealine S23 fun toy, good for 2 or 3 peaple, sleeps 4 [ sould get new for price quated].or as mentioned Sealine S28 or older S34 .S34 is very good first boat, I know many peaple with them and family owns one , BMB not as nice interior as sealine but nice to handle. Ancaster at port hamble deal in them.

Hi

I know of the BMB boats and If you want a boat with a decent hull and handeling and doesnt look like its been pumped up with a stirrup pump go for the BMB. If you want something that keeps its value then Id go Sealine ( sorry Sealine owners thats the only thing that I can say good about Sealine)

Note that TwoStroke recently stated that "Have been informed BMB are bringing out a sport cruiser based on the 25DC. Should be ready for the London Boat Show". Thismight be better for you if you plan to sleep aboard.

May be the 28 but the 23 isnt as big or has as much on board or space for roughly same money. Leader 805 wins hands down in all depts on that boat.. The 28 different kettle of fish and different price range.

If depreciation is the main issue, then perhaps it's best not to buy.

Not because the boat will devalue too much, but you can never justify buying a boat on economics. Your Heart not your Head must choose the boat.

After passing that hurdle, it doesn't matter which make you buy, just make sure you get the best deal possible, and if it's too big to trail behind your car, ONLY BUY a DIESEL engined one.

However it's worth avoiding ones with known design flaws, as these could be difficult to sell on. MBM's recent test on a Rodman 30 may be one to study it such a model was on your short list.

For that sort of money you are also looking at the BMB 27 <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.falmouthyachtbrokers.co.uk/boats/bmb270.html>here</A>. Single diesel only though just under £60k. Think it was one of the first so they should start coming onto the market in bigger numbers next year. This one has been on the market for a number of months now (think because of single diesel).

An extra £5k for a \"cuddly\"

I like the idea of a boat with a "cuddly". Sounds much nicer (especially in winter) than a cuddy - which sounds Bovine to me.

I reckon its worth an extra £5k. What do you think??

Thanks for all the comments, keep them coming please. We looked at Sealine at the Southampton Boat show and the salesman trapped us in the Cuddy and tried to get us to sign somthing!

As far as the 60 budget goes, its the MAX and would prefer to pay less. Maybe as a first boat we should try something smaller?

PM me if saying it on the forum is not PC, but I would love to know what are considered good makes and bad.

(Just point out to him that 99% of the problems you'll have on a boat are mechanically related, and not builder brand related)...

Thats true. Although very handy if you have something fit to anchor the mechanical bits to. Also a boat that does not pander to much to feminine traits. Sleek and swishy looks great, till want to get the anchor up on swishy waves. Thats when the little Seabinladins start to look poo.../forums/images/icons/laugh.gif

What about a Seaward - now that is a proper solid boat, not one of these plastic thingys that look like they are about to fall over.
