Buying a yachtwith French flag

Simply get your ships carpenter to repair all cannon holes, renew damaged rigging & spars, bend on new sails, tear down funny looking red/white /blue rag - grind into dirt after spitting on it of course, hoist a proper ensign as appropriate with a Union Flag somewhere adorning it, change its name to something more anglicised, press a few new crew & call it yours!

Easy, or so said some sailor fellow with a similar name!

If I remember my Patrick o'Brien correctly:

Captain 25% (of which he gives 1/3 to the Admiral)
Officers 25%
Petty Officers and Warrant Officers 25%
Crew 25%

But I stand to be corrected by more venerable members of the forum who may have personal experience

BTW, I reckon I count as Captain, Admiral and Officers on Capricious - so I get at least 50%! That leaves the rest for my wife, usually

I don't think they'll exchange a yacht for a French flag, but I do hear white ones are very highly valued over there.
