Buying a wooden yacht.

I should know better at my age but I have seen locally a wooden yacht at an unbelievable price. I will attach a photo to see if it can be identified. What are the things to look out for when you go down this route? Apart from "does it float" I am at a loss! Any comments favourably received.View attachment 51000

Are you sure that's a wooden boat? If so, the finish on the hull is incredible; not a seam visible,

Thats what I was told by the seller. I am going to see it tomorrow so will report back. By the bye I often meant to send you a message about the "Gambia". On my first ship circa 1963, HMS Lowestoft were two seamen Robbie Robinson (big and fat) and Bert Ramsey (small and fat). Anytime something happened that offended their seamanlike endeavors and they used to say "that wasn't the way we did it on the Gambia was it Bert?" always stuck in my mind.
Anyway back to the boat, it appears to have a wooden mast and a sleeve of some sort towards the bottom (a bit hard to see on the photo). We'll see tomorrow.

That looks like it could be cold moulded wood which can be very good if there is no rot in it. Pay close attention to the deck and coachroof as this is invariably the part of the boat that rots first because of exposure to fresh water which gets into the multiple joints.

Find out as much as you can about the construction as that is critical to understanding whether the boat is sound as well as ease or otherwise of repairs.

You can often tell a lot by the little things.

Assuming the trailer does not belong to the yard, it seems very nicely painted and padded. The wheels look neat, it feels as though someone has spent more time on it than they needed to. So, for what its worth, the signs are encouraging. Best of luck.
