Buying a pontoon

I may have the opportunity to install a pontoon in place of fore/aft mooring. May have...

...but a how much would a finger be for 30ft boat. Are they available in good nick used? Are transport costs expensive?

Bear in mind, if you're in the know, It's a finger just big enough for a 30ft sailing boat.

You don't say whereabouts you are but if you are on the Hamble, speak to Andy, Martin or Mark at Swanwick marina. They have a load of pontoons stacked on the hard from the removal of F pontoon because of the relocation of the lift dock.

No idea if they are for sale but worth asking the question.

They have just replaced the last setion of wooden pontoons at Bradwell so the old ones may be available.

Aren't Walcon one of the major suppliers - so worth a google ?

I agree one would think there must be secondhand ones around though, maybe a case of contacting marinas or suitable clubs near you ?

Delivery is via a basic flat bed lorry with a hi ab lift crane just behind the cab.

I installed the pontoons in Clew Bay, they ran perpendicular off a stony beach, rose and fell with each tide, criss cross concrete mooring blocks held the end out to sea, the shore side was chained to a handy telegraph pole. Works a treat. Aranmore Lifeboat once tied up to the end of the pontoon at low tide, easy.

If not bolted to anything you don't want a finger, you want a piece of walkway. The fingers (unless very wide) are top heavy plus taller than they are wide and flip over unless secured down.
