Buying a Las Palmas Registered motorboat

Hi All.
At 62, my knees have started to stiffen, and I do not bend as I used to.
So, I am thinking about selling my Moody Halberdier, and buying a motor vessel.
There is one, in Las Palmas Marina, with an open stern gate and a bathing platform.
So , no more scrambling up the ladder, and having to swing legs over the pullpitt, If I buy it ?
However, I have only ever bought boats, in the UK, where everything is regulated and stable.
But....
What about in the Canaries ?
I know, due to operation Malaya, all Spanish Lord Mayors & their staff, were thrown in jail, due to corruption ?
Anyway,I have an appointment, to view a vessel shortly.....

Are the Canaries, straight foreward, or is it like some countries, where the published price, is only for Tax Due.
Then you are supposed to pay more ...... under the table ??

Also, the SSR site, seems to be under reconstruction, so I can only click continue for about 4 pages, then after that, it just stops !
So, asking you all.... Last Question ..
How easy is it, to buy a boat from Gran Canaria, the Re Register it with the SSR ?

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

I can't help with the purchase intricacies, but once you have the boat it should be very straightforward to de-register it locally and then register on the SSR providing you have a permanent UK address, or something which approximates as such.

I bought a Spanish boat and it was a doddle. The seller has to de-register it and then just put it on the SSR. If you're buying through a broker he will be able to sort it out. You will need a new UK MMSI for the radio.

Unfortunately the Canaries are not part of the EU VAT area. It's thus not wise to assume that any vessel bought there would be considered VAT-paid in the rest of the EU. The OP might be wise to seek specialist opinion (unless, of course, he plans to leave the boat in the Canaries).

The ad, is in something called uk.topboats.com and the ad says private seller.
Is there any sure way, of checking for any debts or outstanding loans ?
My spanish is not that good, but I guess I could ask at the office, if they know of any problems.

If you're not using a broker then I would recommend a Gestoria who specialises in boat stuff. The office at the marina will be able to give you some names and they will probably also know of any dodginess on the part of the seller. Word tends to get around.

Thank you for the very prompt response. I did ask at the office earlier today, and was told that that information was protected by the data protection act and they could not answer anything unless the owner was there too and gave permision.
Through a mate here, I have been introduced to a notary or similar, who apparently can do searches etc, should I be so interested that I pursue the matter, after viewing the vessel.i have to go see him.
I will update as and when.

Ok, I have now seen the boat, and I am not interested in it.
It is a converted ex naval fast attack boat with a double hull & bulletproofing in between.
For its size, there is not much open plan, its more based on small cabins with 3 & 4 bunk beds, along with an owners type cabin. Also at 18 meters, I find it too big, for a one person live aboard.
