During my hunt for a new (replacement) boat I have found a couple of interesting ones in Ireland that are a little cheaper than some on this side of the water but I wondered whether there are any issues with bringing them to the UK?

Obviously there is the issue of viewing and physically getting it here but that is a separate subject and a separate post.

The broker tells me that it is EU Tax Paid but is this the same as VAT paid in the UK?

Are there any import or other duties?

Would anything stop me from taking the boat to other EU countries (such as France)?

Are there any considerations that I should be taking into account?

I'm sure others have gone through this and I would be grateful for your advice.

Thanks,

Joe

Broker is right. EU is one market and VAT paid in one country is valid within the whole EU (even if paid in a country with lower VAT).

For the same reason a boat (like other goods) legally imported and paid for in any country can travel unrestricted inside the market (pay attention to rules if you want to live in these countries).

Edit: I'm in Denmark with a boat purchased in the UK. Previously brought boats in from Germany, Sweden and France. No issues.

You are not importing a boat from a tax point if view. You are just moving it writhing the tax area (EU) so as long as all tax due in its current state has been paid and it's transfer to you doesn't incur any further ax in that state then you can move it anywhere you like within the EU
