taking the liberty here to snip Dave's message below in case others have missed it.

Brigantia and me have offered to chip in £30 each towards sponsoring a barrel for the charity. Anyone else?

Pretty much the idea, yes. Just got the price list from the organiser so a rough price for a barrel is around the £100 mark (double that if I buy, joys of the tie but we knew that) so here's one example

Mauldons Suffolk Pride £101.45 for 72 pint barrel, sell at £1.60 for half a pint, gives a profit (before running costs) of £128.95

That's the most expensive beer by the way.

The thinking is that if one person wants to buy a barrel and it's a good festival, that barrel is sold making the sponsor about £128.95 (sale price minus purchase) so they get a return of £230 minus ten percent for HTH charity

I understand the army lot are apparently going to go for a barrel as a group, and donating all the take to the charity, so that's a way others might like the plan, and some are going in as a couple so each kicking in half the price and taking the return between them.

All funds are being handled by an independant organiser, we have enough on our plate to worry about, the last thing we need is more of the same. But when people donate a tenner it's effectively going to make about twenty five quid to HTH, almost treble the donation. If one or two want to go for the profit, they get the same sort of return, minus running costs and ten percent to the charity

Where people want the full breakdown and beer list I'm forwarding that by e mail but that's normally the people who want to pick a beer :D

Oh, and thanks to Gin Street for waiving the fee, if it all comes together enjoy hog roast

Dave will be pleased to know I have found 'sponsors' for two, possibly three complete barrels.
Gin Street are pleased to be able to play at this event and it will be great to see as many ECF members there as we can, which will mean putting more names to faces.
We played (as Blue Bark at the time) at the Five Bells in November 2010 at the fireworks/launch event and had a great time so be there or be square.

Thanks all, I shall pass on your offers and see what t'committee have to say
Very much appreciated here in any case

Oh, and a third of a barrel would see me hospitalised these days Roger :D

Very much appreciated everyone
Had a chat with army chap earlier, if nobody objects to the change they would prefer to support the benevolent fund instead of the previous option, they think more support will be forthcoming from their end :o
Asked for an Apache helicopter in the garden, after laughing they advised a Lynch might make it
Wonder if Harry might pop over :p

Cracking result from people all over the place, so a very big thank you to all
Lisa, PM sent
From RAF Wattisham we have a donation of a beer you can only get from 4 Army Air Corps and although this is a bottled beer, because it can only ever even be ordered by 4AAC as they have a micro brewery making the stuff, even the bottles are collectors items
Oh, and they're bringing a few Ghurka's too
Not for sale :D

A big thank you to everyone, Louise is chatting Duncan up on the phone now :p
