Butane transfer to small bottle

I never seem to get much gas transferred to a cigarette lighter or my gas soldering iron.
I’ve seen so many people try and do this with the lighter or iron on top and wonder why they only get a bit of gas transferred
It will also help if the lighter / soldering iron is cooler than the gas cannister.
Gas won't flow from a cool cannister into a warm lighter or iron because the pressure difference will be the wrong way round.

It's a slightly different situation.
The lighter starts off containing air or gas at ambient pressure.
The butane has a vapour pressure of over 2 bar at 20 degC, so there is plenty of pressure to push liquid butane into the lighter until it's about half full.

At this point, there's usually enough leaked butane evaporating from the lighter to chill it, so more liquid can be pushed in.

All definitely an outdoor sport!
