As a follow-up on my earlier post regarding leaking warm water boiler-issue, it now seems that I'm faced with replacing the whole boiler.

Engineer had a look at it and concluded that it's leaking from an unknown source, probably due to corrosion, and must be replaced.

Hold on, I thought, the boat is now on it's sixth season and I would have though boilers last a bit longer than that.

I had a good look around and it does seem that all the fittings are dry, yet a rapidly growing pond keeps forming underneath the boiler. The water pump goes every ten seconds or so and I can hear a hiss as the water leaks. As the boiler is covered with insulation foam, it's really difficult to tell exactly where the leak is, but it seems that a new one is needed.

I must say I was very susceptible, and still am a bit, but new one is due to arrive in the morning and the engineer should be ready to start working on it right away. It's a Volvo QL, 30 liter unit, hope it fits and everything works.

I thought I'd share this on FYI-basis, but I would like to hear if anyone has had to replace a boiler on a relatively new boat.

I had one die in Season 3 on a new Sealine S24.

As far as I can tell, it was from a crack behind the foam near the base. I'm not sure what caused it (freezing? not sure, seemed unlikely given the position and that it was almost empty and not otherwise distorted.)

I guess the advantage your central heating system has at home is that it isn't regularly bounced across a ploughed field at 24kts.
