Just had a note from Burnham Week organisers and it seems they have made changes to the classes.

There are now only 2 IRC classes for the serious rated yachts.

Class 3 is the old class 5 and is for local handicap boats including spinnakers.

Old class 6, that favourite of the ECF, is no more.

Instead we have two classes:

New class 4 - local handicap, no spinnaker, fast yachts.
New class 5 - local handicap, no spinnaker, slow yachts.

I suspect that class 4 is for those who sailed with 'brown' sails on fastish boats last year. I think it is good as the fleets wont be seperated so much this year and it will be easier for them to shorten races.

Personally, I am not sure if I will do the spinnaker class or one of the non-spinnaker classes. I will probably only do the weekends this year. If anyone wants to crew then let me know. If we do the spinnaker class we might need a bit of practice.

Indeed. Also how many people would be happy to enter the slow class.

I can just see how the dinner party conversation would go as the guests spot the trophy. "Of course that's when I cleaned up in the slow class. The competition was tough, there were quite a few boats even slower than me"

p.s. the cockpit dodgers fit perfectly - great job!
