Buoys in mid channel

Does anyone know why there are several orange buoys all with thick ropes attached slap bang in the middle of the shipping lanes in mid channel. They can't be pot markers that far out and no one would want a pick up buoy in mid channel - please someone solve the mystery.....

I think that you'll find that they are indeed French pot markers!

Yes, they are POT markers. Always looks wierd to see them, though.
