Motoring on the fen rivers years ago we encountered a massive sea of recently-cut weed, so went into neutral to avoid winding it round the screw. The screw still turned however because of the gearbox drag, so my father cut the engine. When he released the stop pull however the engine restarted. That was through gearbox drag, it wasn't even engaged.

That must have been at about 7 knots, because we deliberately charged the weed to get through. The engine was already hot though. The tactic didn't work however. The boat ploughed to a halt, and we then spent hours in the dinghy cutting weed free and trying to clear a way through the morass.
