Only today I discovered the YouTube channel called Small Craft Tasmania. The video below, of the very competent Scamp going round Bruny Island in dazzling sun on bright blue seas, is very persuasive about the possibility of cruising in a boat below 12ft long.

There’s a bloke cruising Australia and he flips the dinghy on its side on the beach each night , rigs a tarpaulin and voilà, accommodation sorted !

He’s done a follow on trip up to Venice which may appear as a book. I loved all the literary and historical as-you-row-along kind of references but the Adriatic sounds a tad tougher . Headwinds, pah!

Have a look in the scuttlebutt. Perhaps a shunting proa could make an interesting alternative cruising dinghy. The tent goes between the hulls, a space larger than a king size bed. And they’re light.
