Bucklers Hard

I'm not sure this thread is going the direction the OP expected.

Ha..well Bucklers Hard did ask me to pay 12 quid or so to launch my recently completed wooden canoe and it wasnt 7 metres !!
They did relent...
I find them very helpful indeed with the new HM...

Winter rates have now kicked in. £18 overnight for my 41 footer on the mid river pontoon - I couldn't believe how cheap it was!! I pay much more in Lymington and Yarmouth for non walk ashore and Bucklers Hard has electricity (+£3) and water.

I'm pleased to read that the mid-river pontoon now has electricity. Soon be time to get the leccy blankets out :)

Quite right. I imagine any marina operators reading how happy some of us are will be considering raising their charges to match Bucklers.

Bucklers Hard is fairly unique in terms of setting, facilities and so on. Other marinas looking to raise their prices would have to argue their unique selling point.

This discussion does raise a wider point though. If short stay rates are only going to raise pennies how long before places stop offering them altogether? Short stay gets in the way of overnight customers who want to spend several times more money. It is already a problem. We often arrive somewhere to find its packed out only to see it empty later in the afternoon freeing up spaces we would have gladly paid 4 or 5 times more money for an overnight stay. The berths go unsold.

Somewhere like Yarmouth for instance that gets bombarded by people looking for a short stay, many of whom go off without paying on a busy bank holiday whilst would be overnighters are turned away.

The choice is yours, pay The going rate or lose it for ever...... places like Cowes are all but giving up on short stay berths in the height of the season.

Henry :)

I’ve kept my yacht at Bucklers Hard for 14 years now. It is more expensive than other places, but it is kept to a high standard, the staff are friendly and they’re currently upgrading the facilities (finally!!)
The new harbour master seems to be getting things moving in that respect, and I think most will agree it’s long overdue, hopefully the improvements will continue. The previous harbour master was dire in many respects, but he did get out and about. Has anyone actually spoken to the new One........

Yes. Not quite so “new” Wendy has been at Bucklers for a year now. Very pleasant lady and easy to chat to. I have always found all the team to be friendly and happy to help.

Whilst perhaps not the cheapest it is certainly up there with the best as far as setting is concerned IMHO.
