Imagine a fellow has a decent boat, like a Class 40. He sets off for a few years to complete the world's great races. What would be on his list?
Think of any race over 100 miles. Salt or Fresh water. Round an island or across an ocean.
Crewed, double or singlehanded. Anything goes with his Class 40.
Give special thought to races in far away places like the Middle-East or Orient.

An American would probably add the Chicago Mac in there. And the Newport to Bermuda.

Think there's a Kiwi one that's gaining a good reputation. No idea what it's called though.

A fair few Transat races on the list so far!

Having done it solo once, I think my preference would be for double-handed the next time. Fully crewed on a 40-footer would just be too slow compared with double-handed.

Out my way we have:
Swiftsure - May each year
Southern Straits - Easter each year
Van-Isle 360 - every second summer
Vic-Maui - every other summer from the 360

Is there anything in India?
And Emerates sponsors a boat in the AC, what about races around Dubai?
There must be some great races around the Mediterranean.
And have we even looked at the Scandinavian countries?
Is there nothing in South America?
And what about the South Pacific islands?
It's going to be long voyages between races in my imaginary bucket list trips around the world.

I've done three of those. Was even part of the crew that held the course record in the Swiftsure (for a year).

Round Gotland is in Sweden. Done that a coup,e of times and the excellent thing is that you don't need a torch at night.
